Mussels with Miso, Roasted Cauliflower, Fish Sauce Vinaigrette

I am using the excuse of Wordless Wednesday. I guess I don’t have much to say, or I am just too freaking tired to write. Maybe because I spent the better part of my two days off writing this, which is kind of an exhaustive look at my cooking for the month of December. Last night, in a rare occasion, I cooked a meal. As I brought it to the table, Erik and I looked at it, smelled its deliciousness and “oohed” and “ahhed” over the beauty of the two dishes, and decided we were not hungry. We had a huge lunch.

I mean, massive.

If you are dying for this recipe, which you should be, I can tell you where you can get it. One word. Momofuku. This is my way of forcing my readers to pick up this influential cookbook. A must read in my honest opinion. Just give it to yourself for the holidays.

You know you want to.

I roasted cauliflower and tossed it in a fish sauce vinaigrette with spicy chilies and fried cilantro leaves.

As I sauteed the cilantro leaves, they spat hot drops of oil on my arms. I felt nothing. This is how I know I am slowly becoming a professional cook. The lack of feeling in my hands and arms as I cook with 370 degree oil. Kind of sad, actually.

I sauteed mussels in sake until they popped like a cod fish’s mouth, and then added miso paste, garlic, scallions, and rice wine vinegar to the mix. The sauce was silky and luxurious, and the perfect amount of balance on the back of my over sensitive taste buds.

I hate these photos, I am too tired to write, but I just wanted you all to know I am here, and hope to be better on my two (count ‘em, two!) weeks off from cooking. I am going to preserve meyer lemons, make Christmas cookies if I don’t burn my house down, and make two five course meals (back to back) for our families.

Please forgive my laziness.

Please be nice and post a comment

“Laziness” is not a word I’d ever associate with you! Writing, cooking, blogging…no, not lazy!!!

I did the working, shopping, cooking, blogging, cleaning up the kitchen thing and I was exhausted, so I took a break from blogging, and sometimes cooking, but I am getting my inspired second wind from your blogs. Please keep us up-to-date on your preserves, cookies and dinner parties!

    Kari,

I just read your summer spoon blog and was overwhelmed with your gumption!!! You have the nerve to do what i would never do. I’m inspired. I think I’ll keep cooking in my kitchen, but it’s inspiring to know there is a girl out there, burning her arms off with the best of them and learning as she goes.

    Hi,
I’ve been inspired by your summer spoon blog and this one for some time now. I came across this from the Serious Eats website, I thought I should share, on the off-chance you hadn’t seen it: http://www.gq.com/food-travel/alan-richman/201001/best-new-restaurants-2010#slide=5
    Keep up the awesome work!!
